Om foredraget:

Patients with psychosis live on average about 15 years shorter than the general population and the majority of premature mortality due to somatic diseases, mainly cardiovascular. Risk factors for cardiovascular disease are overrepresented in schizophrenia, for example half of all patients with schizophrenia are obese. Dr. Pillinger will focus on the somatic side effects. The metabolic side effects of psychiatric drugs are well known and contribute to the increase in metabolic and cardiovascular events in patients with schizophrenia. During the lecture, we will hear conclusions regarding antipsychotic drugs and metabolic side effects from a meta-analysis published in Lancet Psychiatry 2020.

 

Om foredragsholder:

Toby Pillinger studied medicine at The University of Oxford, graduating with distinction. He subsequently completed his PhD at the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuroscience, King’s College London, where he remains to date as an NIHR-funded clinical researcher. His predominant research interest is in the mind-body continuum in serious mental illness and in 2019 he was the recipient of the British Association for Psychopharmacology Award for outstanding research in clinical psychopharmacology.

Toby has worked at The Maudsley Hospital since 2015, predominantly specializing in the care of patients with psychotic disorders.
